Segall has eclipsed his peers with his seventh solo effort, Manipulator, by showing he can not only produce lo-fi garage rock in the blink of an eye, but can also put time into a 17-track polished collection of songs that elevate him to the next layer of the blueprint the silver-lipped Conductor. Impressively, in those handful of years he has churned out scores of concept albums, EPs, and splits as effortlessly as a teacher passing out notes. He started planting his rock 'n roll seeds in SoCal back in 2008, and we've watched his limbs rapidly grow through genres while also collaborating with like-minded artists.
